How long have you been working with American Restoration and what is your role?
I have been with American Restoration Water and Fire, LLC for approximately a year. I manage the Contents Division. I work with my team to manage the contents of affected homes while our rebuild team restores our client’s property.
Can you tell me about how American Restoration approaches the fire damage restoration process?
We try to get into the affected areas as quickly as possible in order to avoid corrosion and prevent further damage to the surfaces of furniture, flooring, walls, and appliances in the home. Once mitigation is complete we establish the needs of our clients, and a timeline. We then work with our insurance partners to complete the restoration process.
What is the first thing AR does when technicians arrive on the scene?
We like to provide as many services as possible to our clients so that they have one source of communication. First, we discuss what occurred, and try to get as many facts as we can. Once we have established the history we like to find out what they would like to have restored and discuss our restoration process with them. We feel that our clients are best supported when a strong line of communication is established and maintained. In addition, we like to mitigate damages by removing any corrosive materials from surfaces as quickly as possible.
What are some common concerns that people have when they're dealing with the stress of a house fire or a fire on their property or business?
The stress of the fire is often bad enough to create a type of post trauma stress. For that reason, we like to ask about the event to better understand what they are going through. We like to support our clients through their transition into temporary living or working environment.
Items that are most sentimental are usually the first things I am asked about. As they see the larger picture of the project, they ask what will be covered, and how much they need to pay for out of pocket. The best way any one of us can answer those questions is to refer them to their policy. I always encourage them to speak candidly with their field adjuster so that they can get a clear picture of what will be covered. After we establish their coverage, we can aid our clients better in making decisions regarding their home and contents.
Some concerns can be more complicated, for instance if they run a home-based business. In any case, I always recommend keeping the lines of communication open with their field adjuster.
What does American Restoration do that other restoration companies don't, that helps put clients at ease?
We complete nearly every aspect of the project. We always manage every detail of repair and rebuild projects directly. For instance, we do asbestos abatement, board up, rebuild, water mitigation, category three clean up, and disposal. We can also store contents while our clients await the completion of the rebuild.
We have an experienced construction team. Our foreman of construction, Gerald Medina, has been in construction for more than 30 years. Our team has a mixture of experiences that relate to just about any type of rebuild, emergency, and content restoration situation we come across. Our teams will handle everything for our clients that we possibly can while our clients make their lives whole again.
Tell me a little bit more about the pack in pack out process. How does AR approach restoring items?
Our initial steps include separating contents that can be restored and removing those from the source of damage. Depending on the types of surfaces that we are working with we begin with a dry-cleaning process, then application of specialized products to remove soot. Once the contents have been deodorized, we repack and store our client’s belongings until they are ready to accept their contents back. We can aid our clients with a full home reset so that they have the support to complete the final steps of making their lives normal again.
How does the fact that American Restoration works with insurance companies to help file claims benefit the client?
We partner with adjusters on their behalf and manage the process of the claim for them. The biggest benefit is that we only work within the approved scope from the insurance company, so that the client isn’t stuck with a bill at the end of the process. Clients are at ease knowing that we work in their best interests to meet their needs.
Anything else clients should know about the fire restoration process or working with American Restoration?
Our number one goal is to make our clients lives whole again. In addition to working actively in the field, we like to seek out education so that we can stay ahead of the curve. As a result, we have several team members who are IICRC certified. This means that we work to maintain the integrity of our industry by staying informed.
