Winterizing your hose bib is critical. Water that freezes in a connected garden hose can put pressure on pipes inside the house. (This is a step to avoid flooding inside and the need for flood restoration services.) First, turn off the water supply line to your outside hose bib. Then disconnect your garden hose. Next, open your outdoor faucet to allow any remaining water to drain. Finally, if your hose bib isn't frost proof, you need to cover it with a faucet insulator.
Swimming Pools and Water Sprinklers
Follow the manufacturer's directions to drain the water supply lines to your water sprinkler and swimming pool. Antifreeze is toxic to you, your family, your pets, and the environment. Don't use it unless the instructions call for it.
While you're preparing for cold weather, don't forget to prevent freezing pipes in your outdoor kitchen. Turn off the kitchen's water supply and drain all water lines.
