In New Mexico, we’re pretty fortunate. We don’t experience earthquakes like California does, snow storms like the Midwest, or hurricanes like the South Eastern United States. But there are some risks we do face. A recent news report on KRQE news featuring local weatherman Mark Ronchetti explained that flooding and wildfire top the list of natural disasters we experience here in the Land of Enchantment. At American Restoration Water & Fire. we frequently get calls for fire and water damage restoration, so we know the reality of these dangers first-hand.

Due to the dry climate here, New Mexico forests are often at risk for wildfire, and sometimes these fires affect populated areas. Just this past summer, about 200 people were forced to evacuate their homes near Los Alamos to escape the threat of a wildfire. According to New Mexico State Forestry, New Mexico has seen an average of nearly 600 fires a year for the last 10 years. If your home or business is ever struck by a fire, do not worry. American Restoration has the expertise and experience needed to help you return it back to its pre-fire state.

Even though for the most part our climate is dry, during monsoon season, New Mexico is prone to flooding. This summer in Hatch, New Mexico, there was a massive flood that destroyed chile crops and forced many residents to evacuate their homes. Flooding in New Mexico has been studied by the Army Corps. of Engineers, and according to their website, some parts of New Mexico have experienced an increase in major floods over the past 20 years.

No one can stop natural disasters from happening, but we can do much to minimize their impact on our families if we prepare ahead of time. Even though New Mexico is relatively disaster free, we still have to deal with flooding and wildfire, so being prepared is key. Our blog features many suggestions for protecting your home or business from the damage that can be caused by flooding and fires. At American Restoration, we are always here for you. Our skilled technicians respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
